Fact – Optimism

February 28, 2006

From Abnormal Psych

“Optimism, as another key to effective coping with stress. People with optimistic coping style have a positive attitude toward dealing with stress, even when it cannot be changed, whereas those wit pessimistic coping style are defeated from the onset.  Growing evidence indicates that positive thinking is linked with better health habits and less illness for healthy people, as well as those with heart disease, AIDS, and other serious illnesses.”

Dude, good stuff.  I should study more often.

Fact – Forgiveness

February 28, 2006

From Abnormal Psych

“You can forgive some for a transgression, and in fact, forgiveness is a response that recently has been shown to have health promoting effects.”

I think I’ll try to incorporate this into my life now.

Ironic? I think not.  That a fundamental Christian rule was proven by worldly research to have a positive affect. They should begin to research more Christian principles.

Fact – Suicide

February 28, 2006

Hear is an interesting fact from Abnormal Psych.
More than 30,000 people in the USA kill themselves every year.  That is not including attempts that fail.

Crazy…

Westwood by Storm

balloons

So some guys came over to my apartment in Westwood tonight (FRI). It was just a coo night for chilling and hitting up the “town.” Alex and myself hit it up, what started out with “lets get some grub” turned into Hollywood & Highland, Kodak Theatre, Sunset Strip, and Hollywood Blvd. The other fellas were trying to get to the UCLA vs Fullerton game at Jackie Robinson Stadium, they got lost, and they were calling me for directions, kinda crazy. The guys got there like 9pm which was the bottom of the 7th. Alex and I missed the game.

After the game consisted of chillin in apt, going to LaMonicas Pizza, Denny’s, a concert, where we got balloons, nice big fancy pink ones. We made some ladies happy as we gave them balloons. We each had one to give to a lady, and with the two leftover, Kurt and I tied the balloons on some girls team moped, written on the balloons, “for a good time call 626 664-****”

Long Day @ School

February 24, 2006

I need energy.  Physics and Abnornal Psych midterms coming up this next week, both are vital.  So I am really looking forward and kind of dreading the weekend at the same time because I have no classes, looking forward to BBall games, and time with friends and family but I know I need to study.

Making a long day at school, was because I had a slow walking pace.  I think I slightly pulled my hammy playing basketball.  It took me 35 mins to get to class this morning, it usually is only a 20 min walk.

I did get to fellowship with some brothers during lunch about the End of Days and Eternal Security.  I was introduced to a new prospective, it is was unique.  If you are interested just ask me sometime, I’ll be glad to try to explain it to you.
PEACE!

UCLA Basketball Game

February 24, 2006

Bruin ID Bruin ID

So I’m back for the UCLA bball game at Pauley, the place was rockin just alittle, probably not as much as a RHP girls bball game, which had more scoring than this game.  UCLA did beat Oregon State by 18, they striaght took the Beavers to school in the second half.  I was surprised that UCLA was able to score this much, I didn’t think they could do it.  They better light it up from here on out.

About the picture, that is Kurt.  He made his ID from mine, so now he can go to games, its legit.  We made it past security at the entrance.  But we didn’t get down the the DEN (student section) cause we came too late.  The tix were free from a friend who had season tix but instead went to a Asian Cultural history down at school, so it was cool.  We were right behind the DEN.  The most exciting part was the halftime contest, some foo made a layup, free throw, 3 pointer, and half court shot in 4 shots, total! The place straight errupted, and then the next guy made the first three shots to get to the half court shot which he almost made twice.  It was amazing, and it jumpstarted the Bruins in the 2nd half.

Dude I stepped in mud with the Taiwan sweet kicks from Chooch.  So DUMB!  The pic is on flickr.

Part two: the food for thought

February 23, 2006

Ok so in the last post I mentioned a discussion I had during fellowship. After the designed fellowship about the 5 points true christians should acknowledge, I talked to a brothers about eternal security. Although the phrase “eternal security” never came about we talked about it, and a brother said that you can never be unborn, and God will never forsake you, I agreed with that God will never forsake you, He is always ready for you to accept him. The unborn part was abit unclear to me, he had scripture saying that once you are born nothing will ever separate you from God, but I tried to argue “what if i choose to do something wrong, against God’s will?” He responded “You are still born and you cannot be unborn from God.”

I was silent.

He also said nothing get get you when you are in God’s hand, I said “Thats right, but you can choose to not be in God’s hand.” Then I had to go. It seemed that he believed in eternal security, and me and another fellow were not so sold on eternal security.

I’m sure had we had more time to talk we may have concluded to the same point, but I don’t know. God will always be ready and willing to take you as His own, regardless of your past. After that we need to exhibit the friuts of the spirit, which is from God’s power. We are accountable and can choose our own destiny.

What you all think?

So I finally got one

February 23, 2006

Hello eveybody! I always seem to eat my words, I told friends I’ll never get an iPud (iPod) and next thing you know I got a 30G pic and video iPud, I know I know….brutal. Well this is another example, I told friends I’ll never get a blog but guess what? You are reading it now. Funny how things work out.

So I think this blog will be good for me in many ways, it connects me to my friends, and helps me think over some everyday issues I come across. For example, I went to a BS (bible study) today with Christian Students on Campus, and we discussed the 5 main points the any Christian believer should acknowledge:

1) Bible as the devine word of God, 2Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”

2) The Trinity as shown by Matthew 28:19 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”

3) Jesus was both a physical man and God simultaneously as shown by two verses in John, the 1:1 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” and later in verse 14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

4) Jesus’s Work, not just his ministry and miracles but his life. Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

5) Salvation through Jesus Christ. This is exemplified by Romans 10:9-13 “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” 12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Each of these are true and we all can appreciate these points in our own way independently. I certainly did. This BS helps gain refocus on God and enjoy fellowship with brothers and sisters, although life may be in disarray God is faithful, and the BS helps me to realize that. I am also thankful for the constant of friends who are filled by the spirit. Thank you.
